The Dangerous Storm
By: Emily
1967 a girl named Anna Martin who lived in Florida was watching the news and at the bottom she saw a severe warning alert. Chills ran down her spine as she saw the word hurricane. Anna went see if she could go home. Her friends mom agreed and said to sprint home. When Anna got home there was no one in sight. “Mom, Dad.” She screamed. No one had answered. She yelled again, but no one answered again. The only thing she heard was her heart pounding with fear. Anna screamed with terror in her voice. She looked for a safe place to hide. She could not find a single place without a window. In the corner she saw some thing. With goose bumps she walked over creeping carefully around the corner. “Ah!” she yelled. Then she realized it was only her beloved dog, Bailey.
Anna turned on the TV to see when the hurricane would be coming. The news said the storm would hit in 1 week. Anna froze with fear. 7 days past and Anna was thinking about the storm. It was a very silent night for Anna. She kept thinking about the storm and was getting goose bumps. She hugged Bailey closer. The next morning the wind seemed to be getting stronger, lightning and thunder came out of no where. Anna started screaming. “Its here I am going to dye!” The rain poured down more violently now. Anna was freezing, terrified and hungry. Then she freaked out when she saw a palm tree fall flat on the ground. “Ok Bailey at least we know I am an excellent swimmer which makes me strong so we can survive.” Anna said “Oh never mind Bailey we are going to dye and Bailey I will always love you.” She bawled. “Woof.” answered Bailey. Then Anna tripped on something and saw it was a handle on the ground. She opened it and saw it was an underground place and had no windows. She quickly got in and Bailey jumped in with her. Anna closed the door and prayed that she would be alright. Then she found a light and turned it on. “Wow, there’s food and blankets and everything we need!” Anna said happily. A little bit later she got so tired she fell asleep. In the morning she did not hear any rain, thunder and lightning. She carefully got out and saw her whole house was ruined. “Well Bailey, at least we survived the storm.” Anna said.
Anna and Bailey walked onto the beach. “What is that spot in the distance?” Anna questioned. They walked slowly and carefully to see what it was. When they finally came closer, they realized it was only a person. “Hello!” Anna called. He or she did not answer. Anna ran to catch up.
“Hi.” Anna said again.
“Whatever.” The boy said.
“Did you survive the storm too?” asked Anna.
“Obviously” he said annoyed.
“Why are you acting so grumpy?” Anna asked.
“I don’t like girls.” He answered.
“Well, can I at least know your name?” Anna asked.
“Alex” he said.
“How can I be a girl you do want to know?” She questioned.
“Take the quiz.” Alex said.
“Ok” Anna answered.
“First question, do you like pink?” Alex asked.
“No way” Anna answered.
“Next question, would you call yourself a girly girl?” Alex asked.
“Of course I wouldn’t!” Anna said.
“Next question, do you like dresses, skirts, and strapless shirts?” He asked.
“Not in a hundred years!” Anna yelled.
“Ok last question, are you a tomboy?” Alex asked curiously.
“Yes!” Anna answered.
“Well, you did answer all of the questions like I wanted you too.” Alex said.
“So will you travel and maybe be my friend?” Anna asked.
“I guess I will travel with you and I will think about being your friend.” Alex answered.
“That’s fine with me so let’s go find some food.” Anna said.
They where walking along and they spotted a bush with lots of berries. They took some and went to sit down. Anna had totally forgotten about the place she stayed in for the hurricane.
“I am so sleepy.” Anna said closing her eyes.
“Same here.” added Alex.
“Alex!”? Anna screamed.
“What?” he asked nervously.
“I just remembered that the place I stayed to be safe in the hurricane and it had everything we need.” Anna said excitedly.
“Then let’s go there.” Alex pleaded. Alex and Anna headed back to the underground place where Anna had stayed in.
“Wow, this place is amazing.” Alex said
“How is it amazing, when it’s dirty and has cobwebs with dead spiders still in them?” Anna asked.
“Well, I like dirty, scary places.” Alex said.
“So you probably don’t want to clean it.” Anna said sadly.
“I guess I can, if you really want too.” Alex said.
“Thanks!” Anna said throwing her arms around him.
Anna and Alex began cleaning.
“So which sides do you and Bailey want? The right or left?” Alex asked.
“I think the right side, just because the left side has food and Bailey might get into It.” answered Anna.
2 Hours Later
Anna and Alex finished the room. It actually looked sparkling.
“We did a pretty good job.” Anna said.
“Yah, I guess.” Alex said regretting what he did.
“So what do you want for dinner?” Alex asked.
“Maybe we could have peanut butter on bread and if we can get a fire going we could have noodles?” Anna suggested. 30min had past and they where about to give up trying to make a fire.
“Come on Alex, let’s not give up yet?” Anna said.
“Ok, but I am only trying a few more times.” Alex said. Finally after a two more tries, they finally made a blazing fire. The next day was a bright and sunny day. Anna and Alex played fetch with Bailey and played in the water.
“Hay, Anna do you want to make ice cream?” Alex asked.
“That’s a great idea.” answered Anna. They went back home and got some supplies like: cream, sugar and of course ice to make it ICE cream. They looked every square in. to find a churner but could not find one. Then all of a sudden Bailey started to bark. And of course Bailey was right by the churner.
“Silly dog.” said Anna.
“Or smart dog I would say.” Alex said laughing.
“Anna I wanted to ask you something?” Alex said.
“What?” Anna asked.
“I was wondering if you wanted to be my best friend because now we have known each other for 2 months.” Alex asked.
“I was waiting for you to ask that, and of course I will be you best friend!” Anna said happily.
“Best friends!” They said together.
4 months later
It had been a long 4 months, and Anna, Alex and Bailey where running out of food.
“My stomachs growling and I’m dizzy.” Anna complained.
“I would have to agree.” Alex said.
“Want to go on the beach?” Alex asked.
“Sure.” Anna replied. In the distance they saw something in the sky that was moving fast and much bigger tan a bird.
“Alex, I think that’s a helicopter!” Anna yelled.
“It’s probably a bird and anyways if you saw a helicopter it would only be in your dreams.” Alex said.
“Look in the sky!” Anna said getting mad.
“Oh my goodness, it really is a helicopter!” Alex screamed with joy.
“Help, over here!” They yelled. The helicopter landed with a loud thud on the ground.
“Hello children.” The man said.
“Hi.” answered Anna and Alex.
“I am looking for lost children?” he said.
“Well, we are lost children, so can you take us to our parents?” Anna asked.
“Well, I am ordered to take home a 12 year old girl named Anna Martin and her dog Bailey.” The man said.
“Oh my goodness that’s me!” Anna yelled happily.
“Are you ordered to take anyone by the name of Alex McCarthy?” Alex asked worried.
“Sorry, I don’t have an Alex on my list.” The man replied.
“Alex, where do you stay when storms come?” Anna asked.
“Well, my parents drive to Iowa.” Alex answered.
“Wow, parents drive to Iowa too.” Anna said joyfully.
“Where in Iowa do you stay?” Alex asked.
“My parents usually like to go to Des Moines.” Anna replied.
“Shoot, I stay in Ames.” Alex said sadly.
“Are you dumb? Ames is right by Des Moines.” Anna said.
“Hurry!” they said together.
“Um, guys only me and one other person is allowed on the helicopter.” The man said.
“Maybe we could find a way to fit.” Alex suggested.
“You can look, but it’s really small.” The man said. Anna and Alex quickly ran over to see inside. The first idea was for Anna to sit on Alex and Bailey on Anna. They decided that was to disgusting. The next idea was…
“Alex, maybe Bailey could go under the seat and I could squeeze in the corner!” Anna said in delight.
“Yeah, let’s go ask the guy.” Alex yelled cheerfully.
“We found a way!” They yelled.
“Let’s see it.” The man said. After the man had seen the idea he actually thought it was a good idea after all.
“That is actually a pretty good idea.” The man said.
“Great so we can do it?” Anna asked.
“Sure.” The man said.
“This is great!” yelled Alex.
“Ok, is everyone buckled?”
“Yes.” They said.
“Then we are on our way.” The man said.
2 hours later
“We are here!” said the man.
“Hay, before we leave what’s your name?” asked Anna.
“Bob.” He replied.
“Ok, what is your guy’s numbers?” Bob asked.
“926-109-3024.” Anna replied.
“926-974-0432.” Alex answered also. 30min later Alex and Anna’s parents came.
“Mom, Dad!!” Anna screamed with joy.
“Mom, Dad!” Alex screamed cheerfully.
“Now that we are all back safe and sound do you guys want to have a party?” Anna’s mom asked.
“Sure.” They answered.
“Mom this is my best friend Alex. Can he come to the party too?” Anna asked.
“Sure.” Her mom answered.
“It’s great to be home!” Anna said.
“It sure is.” Alex agreed.
