The Game
By:Mataya
“Mine!” Niki yelled. Niki jumped for the ball and bumped it back. “Niki!” cried a voice.
“What?” Niki cried
“Jump up”
“Ok” Niki said in a sigh. A jump up is when you jump up and spike the ball back. The game had 10 seconds left on the clock. Niki out of breath jump up and spike the ball back. Arrrrrr that was the buzzer we won the game. Jenny Nikis best friend said “we are going to the play offs”
“Yeah I know “then Niki got a call. “Hay Jenny a scout is going to be at are game.”
“Cool”
“Yeah I guess so”
Niki was at home in her room working on her setting. She could not stop thinking about the scout being at her game. Niki did not tell her mom or dad about the game. She practices every day even though the game was a month away. The next day was the game. Niki got up early got ready and left. It was Saturday. The game was about to begin and Niki got really nerves. Niki saw the scout and got butterflies. Niki moved fast on the court. After the game was over Niki went home and what’d for the letter a week later she got the letter. It said the California cats would love her you to be on there team.
I was so excited the California cats won the championships almost every year. The couch is Mary Lopez, one of the best couches in the world. Nikis parents were so exited and Niki was too. I left on Friday. Las Vegas to California.
I met the couch and my new team. Mary said Hello in a nice voice
I said hi back.
Mary asked if I wanted to see my new room.
I said yes. Mary led me to my new room. It was beautiful. There were flowers every ware. My new home was beautiful. Mary gave me a list about the poperatze. I read it it said don’t look at them don’t talk to am don’t let theme see you. A new life was about to start for me I could tell.
It was Sunday and Mary gave me a jersey. It was purple and it had a cat on it. A game was tomorrow it began at 8:00pm. I headed for my room after practice. I was exhausted. I got on my bed and called my mom. We talked for an hour. When I was off the phone I went to sleep.
It was Monday and the game was in 7 hours. I went to lunch with the team I got a burger. The game was 4 to 10, and we were winning. “Couch I am going to get a water”
“ok ”she said.
I walk to the concession stand. I ran in to a guy holding a milk shake. “Crap” my jersey” I said.
“I can fix that”
“Yeah but in 20 minutes” I asked
“Yes” follow me”
He took me to the supply closet and took bleach and stuff I didt know the name of.
“What’s your name” I asked”
“James “he said “yours”
“Niki”
“Cool” wola good as new!”
“Thanks I said”
“will see you on campus”
“yes well I got to get back to my game”
“ok bye” James said.
As I walked away I thought James was kind of cute.
Are team is winning a lot of games. Know I cant go out of my dorm with out getting attacked by the paparazzi. I try to follow the tips Mary gave me but thay seam to work. My life is turning in to a circus. For example I went to get a coffee and the paparazzi would not stop surrounding me. I am considering quieting the league.
I told my mom that I want to quit the league. And she said me and your father would be disappointed in you. James and I have become good friends. I told him and he said not to quit so I am thinking if I should or not. And now my grades are dropping. I need at least get a C+ on my test. So I am missing this week’s game to study.
Good news I got an A on test and I have decided not to quit. I told my mom and dad and they are happy. The championships are coming up and we are playing the Ohio Indians. They are not gust good they are not just good they are very good. Mary says we have practice every night. I don’t know how we are going to beat theme but it has to happen.
“Come on girls,” Mary said. Practice is getting harder every day.
“Why are you so up tight?” I asked Mary. All she did was yelling at us.
She said “I don’t like the coach. She was so mean in high school.”
I told the team and they promised to do there best.
Well, today is the is the game and I am nervous. I can’t stop thinking about the team loosing. I know I should not think that way but it is hard not to. Today I could not pay attention on school. 6pm was the game and it felt like time was ticking faster then it should. It was 5:30 and I got ready. Mary said we would be playing in the new gym. I walked through the big doors and saw Mary and my team. The gym was packed. My mom and dad where there in the front row. I was shocked.
“Hi honey,” my dad said. He gave me a huge hug and so did my mom. I also saw the Ohio Indians and their coach. They looked hard to beat but this has to happen. Then I heard the speaker say “lets begin.” I got into my position. Nyomi served the ball to my head but I hit it. It hit the floor with a smack. It went like that for a while. Then the score was 24 to 24, we were tied. Madi from my team served the ball over the net. A girl hit it back over. My team yelled my name to make sure I was ready. I bumped it over and then back over and over again. Finally, a girl slipped and missed it. The ball hit the floor.
“We won!” my team yelled. “We won!” I yelled. Everyone started to yell and scream. James ran down from the stand and hugged me. Then we shook hands with the other team. A trophy was brought out and we all got our picture taken. After the action died down, our team went to dinner and toasted to a great year. I could already tell I wanted to play next year.
