Searching
By: Chase
It was cold and dark as the wind howled by the house. The door opening and closing as the wind pushed it. I heard footsteps outside. It was just properly mom.
I heard footsteps again. Louder and louder they grew until BOOM! The door shot open.
I started to think it was dad but I didn’t know who it was because he just ran by me super quickly.
I got close to the corner of the door… BANG!
If dad was here then who was at the door?
Dad just turned the corner when I heard another bang. Dad fell. He fell hard. I wanted to turn the corner, but I didn’t know what happened to him.
I found out what was behind the door but I wished I hadn’t. I didn’t turn but what ever it was, it turned! I heard another bang! That was the last thing I heard because it got me in the leg. I saw something pass over me, another thing then fell on me, it was then black. I didn’t know what happened because that was all I could remember.
-------------------------
“Ahhhh!” I heard a yell from her room.
“What is it now?” did she need help getting breakfast or what? Should I even bother to walk in?
As I was about to walk in I remembered something!
There was a strange mysterious lady. Mom and the mysterious lady were in a fight! The lady was losing. She looked nice she kind of looked like me! I hope she won though shed didn’t look like a lady who would attack someone! The fight was over! The lady had lost. Game over. Gone, gone forever in the world.
I wish I could at least known her.
“Get over here!”
I realized she saw me when I was day dreaming.
Through out my life I tried to be very stealthy for this reason.
I didn’t know if I should even bother to walk in? Maybe someone was willing to take me in? Maybe it was another bad home though. Well couldn’t get much worst then this I kept thinking to my self. It was a no brainer! Just go for it. Why not? I wheeled out the door as fast as I could with she yelling at me but I didn’t care because I was free!
---------------------------
Even walking for about one week, I’m not sure I can take this much longer.
“Who’s there?”
I was about to take off until he stopped me.
“Don’t be scared fellas,” he said. “I don’t bite!” he started to chuckle.
“Um… hi,” I replied.
“What brings you here?”
“I’m running away,” I answered but then I started to think he was going to turn me and bring me home again.
“More like wheeling away. Hey look, wheeling away isn’t always the answer.
“Better then a mean mom?”
“Look, she’s your mom.”
I couldn’t argue with that, “I wish she wasn’t though,” I said as I started to go in the other direction.
“I ran away too and I will always regret it from this day on. Don’t make the same mistake I did,” he said.
Could he be right? Of course not! I just kept going until I didn’t see him any more. Could he actually be right though?
--------------------------
I was just getting close to down town with the wind pushing me and with the sun right on top of me.
I found a shiny new quarter with the sound of “cha-ching” in my ears.
I was still thinking about my dreams. How come the lady started the fight? After all she did look really nice any way. Maybe, just maybe she didn’t. Maybe mom did! After all she never was the nicest person, but maybe the lady didn’t lose the fight! Maybe mom really isn’t my mom! Maybe, just maybe. There were the maybes again, after all what are the chances are? 50-1? But why would mom bring someone home just to fight? Maybe mom was the lady who came home and won but the mysterious lady was just defending! Maybe she was my mom! It was the maybes again but this wasn’t one, this was a sure thing! It’s too late to think about that, I need some rest I thought.
------------------------
I woke up to the sound of sweet humming birds and the sound of polluting cars next to a garage pole.
It only toke me seconds to remember my dreams.
Since all of my parents were dead but the lady who was taking care of me was super mean and in some of my flashbacks. So she isn’t my mom, but the murderer of both my parents.
I was getting hungry now. I hadn’t eaten anything for a while so I stopped by Snuffy’s to think. I took the booth by the window. I stared out the window and saw fancy house after fancy house but the one that stood out was an old one. It was all beaten up with a broken window and a hole in the roof with an orange sign that said “Lukesdale Orphanage.” I was tired of running and I thought I was done too. Maybe this was the place to stop? I had a bad feeling in my gut but now it was almost gone.
Knock knock it sounded like as my knuckles bumped the door.
“Who’s there?” a sweet and welcoming voice said from inside as the door began to open.
“Uh, I have been traveling for a while and I , um want to stop please. My parents are dead and I want a home please, may I have one please?”
“Oh you weary little angle.” She said as a young adult walked out the door. “Oh please come in, you must be freezing and cold. Please stay with us and come in.”
There were about six other kids telling stories and laughing.
I just relaxed in my chair and sat back. My life has changed forever.
